What gives to things their Value
is it polish, gloss, or shine
Or a vain and shallow glitter
that will tarnish with the time?

Or is gold considered precious
for its luster like a flame?
Nay, I say it owes its value
to that it ever is the same .

Many things may bring us pleasure
wealth and fame and hopes so bright
But too often they like phanthoms
fade away into the night

For in this world of shorting shadows
where the fond dreams come and go
Love alone is found unchanging
no matter how the winds may blow

Tis true the rocket, for a moment
gives a clear and brilliant light
But for me, I'll take the candle
that will last through the night.
